IG Historical Price Data Download on Mac Using API

Hello,

I am trying to use API to download historical price data from IG. I have seen a video on how to use Microsoft Excel to do this on a Windows machine. However I am running a Mac, and really don't want to install Windows as it will cost a lot of money and be in-efficient switching between OS. I have even tried running Excel for Mac however because it is a .msi file my Mac will not open it.

I have tried to research how to do it, but I am not a programmer so am struggling to even get started. I do have some programming knowledge so can follow it but as I say I am finding it difficult to even know where to start!

Has anybody had any joy downloading historical data from IG using a Mac?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm downloading historical

I'm downloading historical data from IG using Matlab. This works great on both my PCs and my Mac.

I think your problem has not necessarily anything to do with you being on a Mac but that you want to use Excel. Not everything that works on windows Excel also works on Mac Excel.

Hello,

Hello,

Thank you so much for your reply.

I am happy to use any software for my Mac. Ideally don’t want to have to spend hundreds and hundreds on the software but as long as I can download it in “a” software and copy and paste into my Numbers spreadsheet.

Could you help recommend the best way in your experience to simply download the HLOC data? Thanks.

Well Matlab is no free

Well Matlab is no free software. There are other alternatives (python for example) but all these are not plug´n play and require at least basic programming skills.

Have you considered downloading the data from another source? Daily OHLC data is available from many sources (investing.com for example) for free and you can easily import it in your Numbers spreadsheet it'd assume.

Hello,

Hello,

Thanks. Yes I did have a look at that, used Yahoo Finance directly through stock quote on Numbers but HLOC data was different enough to throw off the indicator calculations. Really need to get IGs data as that’s is what I am trading off.

I do have some coding knowledge not loads and loads but I have done a fair bit in my time.

I had a look at Matlab says it’s £1800 so looking expensive for me at the moment.

Python seems good. As far as I can tell it’s free. Do you know if there is any coding available for this? Or does anybody on this community have any code for Python?

Thank you so much for the help, hopefully get this cracked soon.

A private matlab licens is

A private matlab licens is 150 USD. The price you quote is if you want to buy with a company for example. However python should be available free. Never used it so I can't help you with this. But python is very popular so here are probably others that could help I assume.
